OHI of San Diego?

Hello.  This is my first time posting to this group and I am somewhat
unfamiliar with the "technical terms" used here so please forgive me
and my ignorance in this area.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988.  She had her breast
removed and was on Tamoxifin (sp?) for a short while.  She discontinued
this therapy and seemed to be doing well.

She had frequent checkups (every 2 months)…but this October (1995) she
had an operation to remove a tumor in her lung and it was discovered that
the cancer had spread to her lung and chest wall.  The doctor described
it to my mother as "rice sized" growths all over her lung and chest.  She
was given 6 months to a year to live.

She seems to be in great health now and something that really bothers her
is the fact that the cancer wasn’t detected earlier (a biopsy was done
in April of 1994 and detected nothing).

In any case, she is currently looking at the Optimum Health Institute of
San Diego as an alternative source of therapy.  I found out about this place
through a friend who’s mother had breast cancer and participated in the
three week program there.

Has anyone heard of this group?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Please send email to em…@lava.net.

Thanks for your time and I’m sorry that this article is so rushed and
somewhat vague.

Chris

Sorry about your mom. I lost both parents to cancer. 6 Months to live with
lung mets does not sound right. Get her to a Medical Oncologist who specializes
in breast cancer. It ain’t over yet Chris, and my advice is to fight to get
her the best care available. Get a second opinion, but please stay away from
those quack shops and get her to a good research hospital. In a time of need,
these rodents prey on emotions by selling snake oil as a cure  for your loved
one. I’m not advocating that they are all like that, but there are enough of
these carpetbaggers around to taint the rest and I would not entrust the fait
of my mother to them.  Good luck and once again, I’m very sorry about this.

1988  mother died from Multiple Myeloma
1995  father died from squamous cell cancer of
                                  the Ureter

P.S. Call the National Institute of Health (NIH) for their recommendation
for a good Breast cancer medical oncologist. I did this for my father, and
they recommended Johns Hopkins for us. We found a doctor who did research in
Kidney cancer and we almost saved my father as he had an 80% shrinkage to
the tumors that had spread to his lungs. Unfortunately, kidney cancer spreads
to the brain, and once this happened, nothing could be done.

A friend of mine just got back from 3 weeks there – I’ll ask her for input.

Best to you & your mother & her healing.
