am posting this for my wife, KRISTIN WEST

I’m looking for informtation on improving my absorption of synthroid. As
part of my treatment for thyroid cancer, my doctors have been trying to
make me hyperthryroid using synthroid. By making me hyperthyroid, they
hope to suppress my production of thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) so
that no thyroid tissue grows (I’ve already had my thyroid removed and
undergone radioactive iodine treatment). They are giving me large doses
of synthroid (.350 mg/day and climbing), but I do not seem to be absorbing
it because my TSH level is still fairly high. My doctor plans to continue
to raise my synthroid level to .400 mg/day, and if that doesn’t work she
plans to schedule me for weekly synthroid IV’s! As you might suspect,
these high doses of synthroid have caused me some heart difficulties, and
I occasionally need to take an inderol redurce my pulse (my
endocrinologist has sent me to a cardiologist for a consult). I have used
both synthroid as well as levoxyl, and at one point was even using cytomel
in conjunction with levoxyl with no improvement in TSH level. I should also
point out that I *feel* fine with modest synthroid doses: the only problem is
that my TSH level is not going down far enough to suit my doctor. Has anyone
else encountered this problem? Any ideas for improving absorption? If
this is not an appropriate newsgroup for this question, do you know of any
newsgroups that might have info. on this topic.?
