Breast cancer in your 20's

Hi everyone,

I’ve recently been very concerned about my health and haave been trying to
bombard myself with as much information as I can on breast cancer.

I’m 25, and over the last few months I’ve been getting hot and cold sensations
(at first I thought I had early menopause).  Then suddenly my heart rate would
increase and remain that way for a few minutes to 2-4 hours.  Then more
recently I’ve been having breast pain, not very very painful but it i scausing
me to be greatly concerned.  I just recently discovered that my
great-grandmother died of breast cancer.  I have put on some weight over the
past year.

If anyone has any info on the supposedly uncommon occurrence of breast cancer
occuring in one’s twenties I would really appreciate the info.  I haven’t found
anything at the bookstores yet.

Also, there has been some recent news on women’s hearts being smaller than
men’s and thus bringing along the increased risk of heart disease. Any info on
young individuals w/ this disease would be really helpful.

And if you think I’m being paranoid … drop me a line too.

.. It’s about time for a separate newsgroup for breast cancer.
What do you think??

Too young to die from breast cancer

Go see a doctor.  I think you probably do *not* have cancer, but going
ahead and paying for a doctor’s visit has some advantages: (1) You won’t
have to wonder anymore, (2) if the tests are positive, then you can get
yourself into treatment–the earlier the diagnosis, the better–and (3)
the peace of mind that negative test result can give you is worth the money,
time and effort of going to a doctor.

    Trina:

I’m not an expert in the area, but I have read that young women _do_
get breast cancer… just not in anywhere near the numbers as older
women.  Still, I’ve heard a few stories of doctors overlooking breast
complaints in women just because they were "too young to get breast
cancer" only to later discover that they did, indeed, have cancer.

Having said that, it’s possible that you’re fearing something that
    has a much simpler explanation.

I’d recommend that you get to a doctor right away, even if only to
set your mind at ease.  On the chance that you _do_ have a more
serious problem… early detection is paramount.
