Second Primaries after Successful Control of Initial Tumor

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

I had a 4 centimeter moderately well differentiated squamous tumor
resected in an upper right lobectomy in September of 1993.  No recurrence
and doctors consider this controlled.  What types of lung cancers occur
as new primaries in this instance?  I’ve heard of adenocarcinomas
occuring.  Does the dreaded small cell lung cancer often appear as a
second primary?  I stopped smoking before the surgery in ’93.
Also, after 5 years, how crucial is the X-ray every 6 months?  I’m
considering switching to once a year.

Liver cancer

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Will someone tell me what´s the best treatment for tumors in the liver ?

My father who is 67 years old has been diagnosed an advanced metastasis
a month ago and liver is not primary affected.   Tomography will be done
tomorrow to find out the origin and other affected organs. He is also
getting weak very fast cause a severe gastritis does´nt allow him to take
full advantage on food and oral vitamins.   Our main concern is to get
him rid of pain and to fortify him.

Any comment will be fully appreciated.

Morbus Hodgkin

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

The Tumour Registry of the Comprehensive Cancer Centre in Munich, Germany
offers new epidemiologic data about Morbus Hodgkin at:

   http://www.med.uni-muenchen.de/trm/daten/homepage_e.html

The data is presented in 13 tables and 5 graphs). Each type is clearly marked
(in the upper right corner) and is explained separately with the use of an
example (see legends). The varying patient numbers are partly due to the
development so far where the survival data are limited to a recruiting area
where good follow-up could be obtained.

Tamoxifen or Interferon for Carcinoid

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Hi, My mom has a carcinoid tumur in her lung with metastisis in the liver.
She just finished her 8th (last?) chemo session of Cisplatin and VP16.
One of her doctors wants to start her on a course of Interferon with Sandostatin.
What are the other options?  My Dad heard of a woman that has maintain
a carcinoid with Tamoxifen for over 8 years now.  My mom’s Doctor is not
familiar with this.  Doctors seem to pick these treatments out of a hat; there is
no consistent treatment.

Any feedback would be appreciated, Thank you

side effect information nugt be availabe.

Thank you

speech recognition systems – short survey

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

At the University of Tennessee, Memphis, USA, Rehabilitation Engineering
Program, we often recommend commercial speech recognition systems for
persons with disabilities.  We would like anyone who currently uses these
products to respond to a short survey (we’ve tried to keep it as short as
we can).  Please send your responses to dkambeya…@utmem1.utmem.edu or
fax to 901/448-8781

Which speech recognition product do you use?

What  (disability, faster method of input, etc.) led to the use of a
speech recognition system? [Pls list disabilities, if any]

How long have you used the system? _____________________

How long do you use the system during a typical work period
(before you take a break)? ____________________________

Which (if any) of the problems are you now experiencing:
Often have to re-train the system to improve recognition rates(Y/N)-
Often experience problems with voice – hoarseness, fatigue, sore throat,
etc. (Y/N)-

because of the problems you are experiencing? (Y/N)-

May we contact you for answers to more questions? (Y/N)-

Relapsed Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

My mother is undergoing treatment for relapsed NHL.  She had exhausted
the "conventional" chemotherapy route (pretty much), and was going to
take part in a study of a monoclonal antibody therapy for the disease,
but her type of cancer "morphed" (the only way I can think of what
happened) from the type of B-Cell that could have been treated with the
antibody to a large cell type.  Now, she’s in a phase I-II study of
vinorelbine by 96-hour continuous IV infusion (i.e., chemo again).
Anyone have any experience with this drug and its effectiveness in
lymphoma treatment?
