HELP! Neuroblastoma relapse

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

My 5 year old son was diagnosed in 1993 with stage IV neuroblastoma. He relapsed in September 1995. He has been on CCG- 3891 and CCG-0925 pediatric phase II study of topotecan. None worked. Then we learned of I-131 MIBG therapy. The results so far have been very encouraging. I would desperately appreciate hearing from phycians with knowledge concerning I-131 MIBG treatments, as well as other families dealing with this awful disease. Please e-mail me at dhod…@public.compusult.nf.ca   Thank you in advance. Honna Hodder  Newfoundland, Canada

UV Protective Clothing

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

A friend has an opportunity to get into the supply of uv protective
clothing for children.  I understand that it is like a bodysuit and
provides complete protection for the entire body except the head, hands
and feet.  It is available now but in limited distribution.

Does anyone know if such a product exists in widespread distribution in
USA and Canada.  It seems to me to have good potential, but are there
drawbacks that we do not know about?

Any advice would be appreciated.

Cisplatin and Etoposide to treat advanced adenocarcinoma of uknown origin?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

My mother recently was diagnosed with advanced metastatic cancer. By
the time she realized something was seriously wrong, her cancer had
spread from some point of unknown origin to her lungs, right liver
lobe, and spine.

My mom’s oncologist wants to put her on Cisplatin and Etoposide. But I
ask myself if all the harm these drugs will do to her kidneys and
their little effectiveness is worth the suffering my Mom will have to
endure.

My mother is only 61 and I ask anyone (please) who has dealt with
these drugs or with a cancer patient similar to what I have described
and the treatments used to email me.

I persuaded my mother to begin on a strong regiment of antioxidants,
astragalus, garlic, and milkweed. Is it your experience that these
help herbs/supplements cancer patients?

Does anyone else have an alternate therapy to suggest?

Essiac tea?!?

Can anyone produce proof that Essiac tea works?

We had some discussion about this stuff on here before, but I never
saw any proof that it works.

Anyone?

need help w/ mouth sores, tooth & spine pain

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

A friend of mine has metastatic inflammatory breast cancer.
She has had several chemos, and is currently receiving 96-
hour infusions of Taxol (I’m not sure how often).

She is taking Diflucan for mouth sores, but still gets them
every month.  I’ve seen mention before of a candy to make,
but haven’t seen it recently.  If someone has it and could
e-mail it to me, I’d appreciate it very much.

My friend Tracy also said she has problems with tooth pain
(especially from cold water), and tooth deterioration.  Is
there anything that can be done about tooth problems like
this?

She also has bad spine pain (the thoracic vertebra is in
bad shape), and the morphine isn’t working any more.  The
Duragesic patches aren’t helping much, either, and now she’s
going to try Flexeril with hi-dosing on the patches.  Any
other ideas or suggestions would be very welcome.

Tracy is a new friend of mine, so I don’t know all the details
about her cancer or treatments.  But she’s having trouble
finding any good solutions to these problems, and I offered
to try and find help on the Internet.  I’d sure appreciate
any help that anyone can offer.  Thanks very much.

OHI of San Diego?

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Hello.  This is my first time posting to this group and I am somewhat
unfamiliar with the "technical terms" used here so please forgive me
and my ignorance in this area.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1988.  She had her breast
removed and was on Tamoxifin (sp?) for a short while.  She discontinued
this therapy and seemed to be doing well.

She had frequent checkups (every 2 months)…but this October (1995) she
had an operation to remove a tumor in her lung and it was discovered that
the cancer had spread to her lung and chest wall.  The doctor described
it to my mother as "rice sized" growths all over her lung and chest.  She
was given 6 months to a year to live.

She seems to be in great health now and something that really bothers her
is the fact that the cancer wasn’t detected earlier (a biopsy was done
in April of 1994 and detected nothing).

In any case, she is currently looking at the Optimum Health Institute of
San Diego as an alternative source of therapy.  I found out about this place
through a friend who’s mother had breast cancer and participated in the
three week program there.

Has anyone heard of this group?  Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Please send email to em…@lava.net.

Thanks for your time and I’m sorry that this article is so rushed and
somewhat vague.

Pulse Therapy

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

Pulse Therapy is the name that the Medenica Clinic uses to describe their
Protocol. They use different protocols for different diseases, but some of
the protocols use interferon and sadostatin for a three day period and
then repeat in 28 days. This is where the term pulse therapy comes into
play. I’m still trying to find someone who has been treated there.

Fibrocystic Hystocytoma

Sunday, January 31st, 2010

A friend of mine is looking for info on this – Fibrocystic hystocytoma-
(may be spelled incorrectly) , I’m trying to help so thanks in advance any
help you can give.

She found a maligant mass in her right hand and was operated on just
before Christmas resulting is the removal of the lower three finges and
bones in the hand. I have been told that it is rare to find a growth of
this type in the hand.

If any body has any info or can direct me to where I could find out more
about it I would be tremendously gratiful. Thanks for your time.
